“Ruža: Jekh hango so ašol – A Voice That Remains”: The Musical Legacy of Ruža Nikolić Lakatos
Invitation to the Presentation of the Digital Exhibition
We cordially invite you to the presentation of the digital exhibition Ružake Gila, a collaborative event organised by the Romano Centro and the Music and Minorities Research Centre (MMRC).
The digital exhibition “Ružake Gila” pays tribute to the late singer Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos (1945–2022) and making her musical legacy available online for the first time. As one of the most important voices of Lovari songs in Austria, Ruža played a key role in shaping the Roma musical tradition and campaigned for the recognition of the Romani people as an ethnic group. From 1995 to 1999, she served on the board of the Romano Centro.
The exhibition showcases her artistic work, her role as a cultural mediator, as well as her commitment to the Roma community, and is enriched by audio recordings, song transcriptions, video portraits, and personal memories.
