María del Mar Ocaña Guzmán is a doctoral researcher in the project Women Musicians from Syria: Performance, Networks, Belonging/s after Migration (FWF706-G29, PI: Anja Brunner). Ocaña Guzmán is developing a PhD project to ethnographically study queerness, heritage and everyday-life music-related practices in transnational migration scenarios in Austria and Germany with a special focus on Syrian diaspora.

María del Mar Ocaña Guzmán has previously worked as a research assistant at UNED-Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Dept. of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Madrid), where she was involved in the Cultura Urbana research group, as well as in diverse ethnographic projects concerning memory, sound archive, and music and intimacy.

She completed her master studies in Anthropological Research at UNED, having also studied a bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance and a bachelor’s degree in Musicology, both at COSCYL (Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León, Salamanca, Spain).
